Notting Hill Carnival 2025

The Notting Hill carnival was established in 1959 to foster community cohesion after racial violence towards the West Indian migrant population that resulted in murder. Trinidadian human rights activist Claudia Jones organised the first indoor Caribbean Carnival at St Pancras Town Hall, where the event featured music, masques, and calypso performers and was broadcast on the BBC. In 1966, local social worker Rhaune Laslett brought the festival to the street, creating the foundation for the Notting Hill Carnival we know today. The Notting Hill Carnival is Europe's Largest Street festival and remains a community-led event, celebrating Caribbean culture and bringing diverse communities together through Sound Systems, floats, costumes and dancing.
