Overtourism In Venice At Carnival Time

Overtourism in Venice has long been an issue for the 49,000 residents of one of Italy's most beautiful cities. Some 20 million people visit Venice each year, on high season days 120,000 tourists will visit causing huge overcrowding problems. The rapid growth of low-cost aviation, cruise ship holidays and peer-to-peer home-sharing platforms all contribute to bringing tourists into the city where the delicate infrastructure dating back hundreds of years is under stress from the high footfall.
