Joni Mitchell on guitar and Cass Elliot in a white top, performing on the poolside "stage." Big Sur Hot Springs, later Escalen Institute, home of the human potential movement in the 60's was the perfect setting for the 5th Big Sur Folk Festival. Everything about the event was relaxed, spontaneous and mellow. Folk music has always told the stories of courage, passion, justice and injustice. Artists have always been the harbingers of truth.
