World’s oldest woman, 116, still feasting on cake and playing Othello in Fukuoka
Video footage taken on Sept. 11 in a senior care facility in Fukuoka shows Kane Tanaka, who was recognized in March by Guinness World Records as the world’s oldest female at 116 year of age, reacting to an Othello-themed cake presented to her ahead of Respect for the Aged Day, to be celebrated on Sept. 15. Fukuoka mayor Soichiro Takashima joined in presenting Tanaka with the cake made to look like an Othello board complemented by playing pieces made of chocolate, in recognition of the centenarian’s favorite pastime and treat. Prompted by the mayor, the high-spirited woman who was born in 1903, the year that the Wright Brothers first flew their powered flying machine, proclaimed that she had no plans on dying anytime soon.
