KURSK REGION, REGION (AUGUST 17, 2024) (EDITORIAL USE ONLY – MANDATORY CREDIT - ‘RUSSIAN MINISTRY OF EMERGENCY SITUATIONS/ HANDOUT' - NO MARKETING NO ADVERTISING CAMPAIGNS - DO NOT OBSCURE LOGO) Residents of Russia's Kursk region are continuing to flee the area following an incursion by Ukrainian forces. On Saturday, the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations released new footage showing the ongoing evacuation of civilians from the region.
According to the ministry's statement, over 300 residents have been temporarily relocated to other parts of the country. A special train is transporting them to the Saratov, Samara, and Tambov regions, with most evacuees being individuals with limited mobility.
Personnel from the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations (EMERCOM) provided assistance, helping residents reach the train station and settle into the train cars.
The ministry also reported that more than 170 temporary accommodation centers have been set up in 24 regions, with over 470 additional centers on standby across 57 regions in Russia.
Kyiv's incursion into Kursk began on the night of Aug. 5-6 when Ukrainian forces entered near the town of Sudzha. On Aug. 12, Zelenskyy confirmed the operation but did not elaborate on its objectives.(Footage by Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations /Anadolu Agency via Getty Images)
