At the Billy Rose Water Ballet stage, spectators watch miniature ships sail through the water tank. Water is sprayed high into the air. Olympians and stars of "Tarzan" Eleanor Holm Jarrett and Johnny Weissmuller dive into the water. The performance was part of the Great Lakes Exposition, also known as the World Fair of 1936, which was held in Cleveland, Ohio in the summers of 1936 and 1937. The exposition was planned to coincide with the centennial of Cleveland's incorporation and to help the city recover from the Great Depression. Cleveland, Ohio, U.S.A., 1937.Eleanor Grace Theresa Holm was an American competition swimmer and Olympic gold medalist. An Olympian in 1928 and 1932, Holm was expelled from the 1936 Summer Olympics team by Avery Brundage under controversial circumstances. Johnny Weissmuller was a Austro-Hungarian-born American Olympic swimmer, water polo player and actor. He was known for having one of the best competitive-swimming records of the 20th century. He set world records alongside winning five gold medals in the Olympics.
