Wat Suthat Thepwararam Temple, Bangkok, Thailand - Photos

I found some interesting carvings in the corner of the temple. Wat Suthat is a royal temple and one of Thailand’s most important temples, although I did not see as many visitors there as I see in some other popular temples. Its construction was started by King Rama I (1782-1809), continued by King Rama II (1809-24) and completed in 1847 during the reign of King Rama III (1824-51). King Rama I brought the main Buddha image, Phra Sri Sakyamuni, to the temple by river from Sukhothai. The 8-meter Buddha image, the largest surviving Sukhothai-period bronze of the 14th century, is housed in the Wiharn ( Main Chapel). The ashes of King Rama VIII (1934-46) are contained in the base of the Buddha image. There are 156 Buddha images in cloisters surrounding the Wihan.
