Space Shuttle Challenger Debris

Three workers support a section of the Space Shuttle Challenger (OV-099) as it is lowered into an abandoned Minuteman Missile silo at Complex 31 at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, in Brevard County, Florida, January 1987. The two sites at Complex 31 will serve as permanent storage sites for all of the Challenger debris - Challenger broke apart shortly after the launch of mission STS-51-L on 28th January 1986 - which will be stored in such a way that it can be readily retrieved at a later date if necessary.
