Military Transport with Open Loading Doors

(Original Caption) The clamshell doors are open, and the built-in nose ramps lowered, ready to take on large military equipment without the necessity of disassembly. The Douglas C124A, U.S. Air Force giant transport, can carry maximum pay loads of 50,000 pounds a distance of 1,000 miles, and return to its base without refueling. Two full size city buses with passenger can be transported. It also has an electrically operated loading elevator amidships. The transport has a wingspan exceeding 173 feet, and the fuselage is more than 127 feet long.
