Quietly, Guam is slated to become massive new U.S. military base

Located on the northeastern coast of Guam in Mangilao, 1000 Steps is a hiking trail favored by locals and visitors. The steep trail, which has a staircase of 1000 steps, leads to a rocky outcropping where visitors can enjoy a view of the Pacific coastline. Nearby is a Pagat, an ancient village where private land was in danger of being used as a firing range for Marine machine guns before local activists helped derail those plans.
