A seahorse floating in the water. SEM

Seahorses can be 1/4 inch to over a foot in length. They eat brine shrimp (thousands a day) by swallowing the whole. Unlike other animals, seahorse couples are monogamous and the male becomes pregnant when the female deposits eggs in his pouch. The pregnancy lasts 2-3 weeks and the male often becomes pregnant immediately after. Located on the head of the seahorse is a coronet which is almost as unique as a human fingerprint.
