Frenchman Emile Mors was a firm believer in the benefits to his firm of being involved in motor racing, and his cars were at the forefront of early motorsport, pioneering innovations such as the V configuration of cylinders and shock absorbers. Rolls was a keen driver and was well known in the car world after taking part in many early motor races. Driving an 80 hp Mors Racer, he set a new world kilometre speed record of 150 km/h (93 mph) in Phoenix Park, Dublin, in 1903.
