Media Suspend Production Of Newspapers In Kashmir

SRINAGAR, KASHMIR, INDIA - JULY 19: Members of the Kashmir media stage a sit-in protest against curbs imposed by the Indian government on July 19, 2016 in Srinagar the summer capital of Indian administered Kashmir, India. Members of the Kashmir media held a sit in protest against what they said is a gag by the Indian authorities since a recent surge in anti-India protests. The editors of newspapers in Kashmir have also suspended their publications because of curbs imposed by the Indian government. Indian government forces on Saturday seized copies of local newspapers in the Kashmir Valley following nocturnal raids on the printing press creating an information blackout as mobile, internet services also remained suspended. The publishers on their websites have claimed that their print copies were seized and people working for the printing press were also arrested. Fierce protests in Indian-administered Kashmir over the killing of a young rebel commander Burhan Wani have left at least 44 people dead and over 3000 injured as an on ongoing unrest in Indian controlled Kashmir enters its 11th day.
