IRAQ--An Iraqi T72 tank erupts in flames after 2nd Tanks Battalion Bravo Company blew it up on their way to a blocking postition near the Tigris River eraly Wednesday morning on the outskirts of Saddam City, near the Tigris River. The tank had no personnel but was full of fuel and ammunition. This tank was one of six that were destroyed. The combat train took fire from an ambush early Wednesday morning from the enemy firing AK-47's from both sides of the narrow road while driving through a small city at about 5:00 a.m Iraq time. (I'm still a bit rattled from the whole deal, I thought for sure I was gonna die, scared the %^&^* right out of me) The Marines from the 1st, 5th and 7th Regimental Combat Teams, headed for Saddam City for their objective but, engaged with the "Fedyeen," army. The Marines turned around to regroup, then quickly left for a new objective Wednesday morning to a blocking postition to be shared with the Army. Designed to keep the enemy from fleeing the city and from entering. THE DENVER POST/ ANDY CROSS (Photo By Andy Cross/The Denver Post via Getty Images)
