THE OPENING OF THE IOC MUSEUM IN
Jun 1993: The flame burns in the foreground as Juan Antonio Samaranch opens the IOC Museum on the shores of Lake Geneva, Lausanne in June 1993, fulfilling another one of Baron de Coubertin's dreams. IOC President Samaranch persuaded many of the commercial supporters of the Olympic Movement to fund the initial operation. The building nestles into the hillside, and uses the best of modern technology to preserve the past and inspire the youth of the world. In its first years, the turnstiles have clickedat record breaking speed with accolades bestowed from museum authorities throughout the world for the manner in which it reflects the Olympic ideal to everyone: from a young child through the student years to those who experience the Olympic Games through the written word and television pictures.
