Behind The Scenes At CERN The European Organisation For Nuclear Research

GENEVA, SWITZERLAND - APRIL 19: A staff member works in Building 72, the Mechanical & Materials Engineering Department or MME workshop at The European Organization for Nuclear Research commonly know as CERN on April 19, 2016 in Geneva, Switzerland. The MME provides the CERN community specific engineering solutions combining mechanical design, fabrication and material sciences. All mechanical construction of beam accelerator components and physics detectors are done here. MME involves a large spectrum of highly specialized activities, including on-site facilities and sub-contracting: CAD design, advanced calculations, high precision CNC machining, sheet metal forming, welding and vacuum brazing, dynamic and static measurements, micrometric 3D metrology, metallurgical analysis, destructive and non-destructive material testing. They provide support for prototyping & feasibility developments, multi-activity and large scale projects combining its on-site facilities and sub-contracting, expertise consultancies, workshop and field interventions, consolidation and upgrade work including on lightly radioactive items, equipment maintenance and urgent demands.
