TORONTO, ON- MAY 24 - Shiitake mushrooms grow on logs in the shade on the south side of the roof. FoodShare's School Grown Rooftop at Eastdale Collegiate was open to the public for the first time as part of Doors Open Toronto. In 2013, FoodShare in partnership with the Toronto District School Board created the School Grown Rooftop by transforming an under-utilized former tennis court, on the roof of Eastdale Collegiate Institute. It is now home to over 450 garden planters, 100 shiitake mushroom logs, a dwarf fruiting orchard, blueberry bushes, a small greenhouse, composting area, an open air cafe, and indoor and outdoor classrooms. at in Toronto.
