Rialto, Oct. 18, 2007 – – – Shoes belonging to the fatally shot Rialto police officer are lying on the sidewalk as Minh Tran of San Bernardino County Sheriff investigates the scene. Police officer was fatally shot while serving a search warrant on Thursday morning at an apartment in the 100 block of West Cascade Drive, authorities said. The unidentified officer, who fought with a suspect in the apartment about 7 this morning, was shot in the chest, authorities said. The officer was airlifted to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center in Colton, but did not survive surgery. Rialto Police Department Capt. Raul Martinez said authorities had not ruled out the possibility that a fellow officer might have fired the shot. A SWAT team and officers from the Colton Police Department were at the scene.Rialto police have detained a suspect. No charges have been filed.
