DDfE Offshoot From Pegida Holds First Rally
DRESDEN, GERMANY - FEBRUARY 08: Kathrin Oertel, former spokeswoman for Pegida and now head of the DDfE (Direkte Demokratie fuer Europa, or Direct Democracy for Europe), attends the first DDfE rally on February 8, 2015 in Dresden, Germany. Oertel and several other leading Pegida members launched the DDfE after disagreements with the remaining Pegida leadership, including its founder, Lutz Bachmann, who caused controversy after Facebook postings of his emerged quoting him railing against immigrants and picturing him with an Adolf Hitler moustache and haircut. Oertel announced the DDfE seeks reform of immigration law, citizen participation over TIPP and European Union membership and a strengthening of police and fire department personnel, among other issues.
