7 Ancient 'Dotaku' Bells Found at Sand Depot In Awajishima Island

MINAMIAWAJI, JAPAN - MAY 19: Ancient bronze "dotaku" bells and some of their clappers have been unearthed on May 19, 2015 in Minamiawaji, Hyogo, Japan. The bells, of "first-class quality," date to the early to mid-Yayoi Period (third century B.C.-second century B.C.) and include one of the oldest dotaku found in Japan, the Hyogo prefectural education board said. The dotaku were used for ceremonial purposes. They had probably been buried in coastal areas of this island city and later collected along with the surrounding sand.
