24th April 1945: Chancellor of the Exchequer John Anderson (1882 - 1958) placing papers into the Budget Box. Anderson, born in Eskbank, Midlothian, studied in Edinburgh and Leipzig before entering politics by taking a job at the colonial office. Anderson was Home Secretary and Minister of Home Security between 1939 and 1940 and the Anderson air raid shelter was named after him.
